Is it Time to Upgrade or Rehabilitate Your Landscape Lighting?
Let’s say you already have landscape lighting. How long ago was your outdoor lighting installed? If the system has been in place for more than a few years, it may be time to upgrade or rehabilitate your landscape lighting. Your system may have been built with incandescent or halogen fixtures, both of which burn out frequently, attract insects, pose fire hazards and run up your electricity bill. Perhaps the surrounding landscape has matured into a gorgeous display, but the lighting scheme was designed for a younger landscape, leaving an underwhelming effect in which your landscape has outgrown your lighting. You may even be experiencing some operational issues with the system due to its age.
The issues mentioned above are common with older lighting systems which is why we ask, “Is it Time to Upgrade or Rehabilitate Your Landscape Lighting”. However, we are happy to inform prospective clients that we can address and fix these problems – often at a surprisingly affordable price.
Many homeowners do not realize that in addition to installing new systems, Lux Lighting can convert professional-grade lighting systems from halogen or incandescent lighting to LED. This conversion allows you add more lighting without the need for an additional costly transformer. Some customers have told us that other contractors arbitrarily tell them that the best option is to build a new outdoor lighting system from scratch. While we agree that there are certain reasons to start over, such as when the original lighting products are of sub-par quality, in many cases the system can be salvaged.
Of course, there is no need to tear down and rebuild quality lighting systems that were made to last. A good rule of thumb is to rebuild the entire system if the LED lamps’ lifespan will outlive the fixture in which it is placed. On the other hand, fixtures that are in excellent condition and have 10 years or more worth of life left in them can be converted to LED, which significantly cuts down the cost.
A quality transformer should last for several years, sometimes decades. If you are ready to expand on your current outdoor lighting design, we are able to convert the system from halogen or incandescent to LED, reducing the transformer load by over 75 percent. This load reduction will let you almost triple the number of lights in your yard, all from the same transformer. The ability to add more lights to your system allows you to illuminate the growing landscape just the way you want. As you know, the look of mature landscape is much better than that of fledgling plants. An outdoor lighting overhaul can give your larger, older plants an eye-popping appearance when the sun goes down!
