Make no mistake: LED Landscape Lighting is the future. In the past, halogen lighting had no equal. LED technology lacked maturity and quality and provided inconsistent results at best.
But that was then, and this is now.
In recent years LED has improved profoundly and become very affordable. If you are thinking of installing a new lighting system, the advantages of LED are numerous:
You save big on your energy bill:
Nowadays, a 5-watt LED is just as bright as a 30-watt Halogen. That means Halogen needs SIX times the power to run at the same brightness. That equals roughly 85% in energy savings. For LED landscape lighting, this also means you can run a much larger display off same transformer.
LED has a wider voltage tolerance:
When halogen bulbs get just a little too much (or not enough) power, they burn out pretty quickly. However, LEDs have a voltage tolerance that is 300% wider, which is more than enough room.
LED has a 10x longer life:
This means 1/10th the headache and lower long-term cost. Your neighbor will have bought 9 new bulbs and climbed his tree 9 times while you sip sangria on your patio before you need to replace your first LED landscape lighting
LED is more durable:
We all know bulbs are fragile. However, since LED doesn’t need a filament like halogen, the most vulnerable and delicate part of your bulb is no longer there.
You won’t burn your fingerprints off:
Halogen bulbs convert roughly 97% of the energy they receive into heat. What an excellent way to get a nice little brush fire going in your yard while you’re out on vacation. We can’t stop you from buying halogen, but if you must, pick up some marshmallows while you’re at it.
LED Doesn’t Attract Bugs:
Bugs just love those hot-spots in your yard and trees. If you feel like you already have enough blood-sucking guests frequenting your lawn, buy LED landscape lighting and politely point the insects to your neighbor’s house down the street.
Buyer-beware: not all LED’s are created equal.
The typical products you will find at big-box stores are junk and have the warranty to match. Expecting a product with a 1-year warranty to work for 20 years doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you’re serious about getting lights that will last, you want solid, durable products like those we use here at Lux Lighting.
